Four ways to Cut your Cable Bill (even without an Element box)

The trend of cutting cable is only increasing and gaining even more options. With the just announced Stream app from Comcast, even major cable providers are now offering options for OTT (over the top) or streaming services. The truth is, there are many ways to cut the cost of cable even if you do not purchase one of our boxes. We will go over what we feel are some of the best options. For the sake of this article we will say that your cable bill is $200 per month ($75 for Internet and $125 for cable).

STREAMING SERVICES

Netflix, Hulu, Sling TV, Crackle, Vudu….we could go on, but we think you get the point. These services are not a flash in the pan, they are the new normal. As the content gets newer and more diverse, the number of options for streaming services continues to grow. There are many different combinations to choose from, the key is to find the options that provide the type of content that you enjoy the most. Whether that is news, TV shows, movies, or sports, there are lots of options.

EX) Sling TV ($20) + Netflix ($9) = $29/ mo.

Savings = $96/ mo. Or $1152/yr.

(NOTE: All of these services do work on the Element box, as well as others that allow you to stream with NO monthly fees)

DITCH LEASING YOUR CABLE BOX

Depending on your cable provider, you can be charged up to $150 per year to lease a cable box. That is the cost per unit! If you have multiple units, obviously this cost increase substantially. There are cable boxes out there that can be purchased for roughly the same amount ($150). Over the years, this can save you quite a bit of money. You do want to make sure that you are buying from an authorized seller and that the box is capable of the same things (like on demand movies) as your cable box.

EX) Based on three set top boxes over 3 years

Cable company cost: $1350 ($150 x 3 boxes x 3 years)

Cost with your own box: $450

Savings over that period: $900

HD INDOOR ANTENNA

For those of us who love local news and programs, this is a great option. As it happens, we do sell these (the article technically said without purchasing an Element box, we never mentioned the antenna). Having access to HD local channels keeps you up to date with what is happening in your area. Make sure to look for antennas with a longer range. Our Antenna has a 50 mile range and includes an amplifier to increase the signal strength and picture quality. This can be used in conjunction with streaming services for more content.

EX) Monthly costs = $2.92 ($34.99/12) + Sling TV and Netflix combo ($29) = 31.92

Savings= $93.08/mo. Or  $1,116.96/yr

NEGOTIATE

With all of the different cable providers available, it never hurts to shop around and leverage those options against your current provider. There are many mysterious “pricing tiers” that can somehow magically be altered when the company is threatened with losing your business. Cable cutting is happening often, and sometimes they can lower the price to save a customer.

EX) This option depends on the company and what they can offer

No matter which option you choose, we hope that you ultimately get the content you love at the price that is best for you. Obviously we feel like the Element Ti4 is a great option to help with this. You can get unlimited content with NO MONTHLY FEES. To learn more about this option CLICK HERE.
